A FreeBSD operációs rendszer dinamikusan és gyorsan fejlődik, ezért a legfrissebb fejlesztések nyomonkövetése nem mindig könnyű feladat. Ha kíváncsiak vagyunk a rendszerrel kapcsolatos legújabb információkra, térjünk vissza erre az oldalra gyakran. Emellett érdemes lehet még feliratkoznunk a freebsd-announce levelezési listára, vagy a hozzá tartozó RSS feedre.

Továbbá az alábbi projektek rendelkeznek saját külön híroldallal, amelyek figyelemmel kísérésével pedig az adott projektben végzett munkáról tudhatunk meg többet.

  • március 27: The FreeBSD Project is pleased to announce its participation In Google's 2011 Summer of Code program, which funds summer students to participate in open source projects. This will be the FreeBSD Project's seventh year in the program, having mentored over 100 successful students through summer-long coding projects between 2005 and 2010.

    Past successful projects have included improvements to Linux ABI emulation, NFSv4 ACLs, TCP regression testing, FUSE file system support, and countless other projects. Many students go on to become FreeBSD developers, as well as participating in FreeBSD developer events around the world through continuing support from the FreeBSD Foundation.

    Prospective participants are invited to apply; more information is available, including proposal and deadline information, on the FreeBSD Summer Projects page.

  • július 20: Megérkezett a PC-BSD 8.1. A PC-BSD egy FreeBSD alapú, népszerű operációs rendszer, amely elsősorban az alkalmi felhasználók számára is könnyen érhető asztali rendszer kialakítására összpontosít. A legutóbbi kiadás óta hozzáadott újításokról és frissítésekről a honlapján olvashatunk bővebben.

  • július 14: A FreeBSD Projekt örömmel teszi közzé a 2010. évi Core Team választásának eredményét. A FreeBSD Core Team tulajdonképpen a projekt vezetőségének tekinthető, amelynek feladata az új src tagok felvételének engedélyezése, a fejlesztő közti problémák feloldása, a különböző specializált albizottságok kijelölése (biztonsági felelősök, kiadássszervezők, portmenedzserek, webmesterek stb.), és igény szerint egyéb adminisztratív vagy házirendi döntések meghozása. A Core Team tagjait 2000 óta a FreeBSD fejlesztők választják minden második évben.

    A választásokról (az új Core Team tagjainak felsorolásával együtt) bővebben a hivatalos bejelentésben olvashatunk.

  • július 2: Megjelent a FreeBSD 8.1 kiadási ciklusának második (és egyben várhatóan utolsó) kiadásra jelölt változata. Az ISO lemezképek a FreeBSD tükrözések legtöbbjéről már letölthetőek amd64, i386, powerpc és sparc64 architektúrákra. A kiadással kapcsolatos további tudnivalókról a hivatalos bejelentésben olvashatunk.

  • május 29: Megjelent a FreeBSD 8.1 kiadási ciklusának első tesztelésre szánt változata. Az összes Tier 1 architektúrához már letölthetőek az ISO lemezképek a legtöbb FreeBSD tükrözésről.

  • május 24: A FreeBSD Projekthez ezévben is számos nagyon jó pályázat érkezett be a Google Summer of Code programjának keretében. A FreeBSD Projekt számára ezúttal 18 pályázatot hagytak jóvá az idei program részeként. Szeretnénk megjegyezni, hogy ne adják fel azok, akiknek idén nem sikerült bejutniuk, mert a FreeBSD Projekt a program keretein kívül is szívesen lát és támogat hallgatókat a megszokott levelezési listákon és fejlesztői fórumokon.

    A részletekkel kapcsolatban olvassuk el a hivatalos bejelentést. A támogatásra kiválasztott FreeBSD projektek listáját a Summer of Code wiki oldalán olvashatjuk. A projektek május 24-én indultak útjukra, köszöntsük hát közösségünkben a 18 új hallgatót.

  • február 22: Örömmel jelentjük be, hogy megjelent a PC-BSD 8.0-ás kiadása. A PC-BSD egy FreeBSD alapú, széles körű népszerűségnek örvendő asztali számítógépekre fejlesztett operációs rendszer, amely elsősorban az alkalmi felhasználók számára szeretne könnyen használható munkakörnyezetet nyújtani. A legutóbbi kiadás óta megjelent újítások és frissítések listáját a fejlesztők honlapján olvashatjuk.

  • február 15: Mostantól letölthetővé vált a FreeBSD 7.3 első kiadásra jelölt (Release Candidate) változata. A FreeBSD tükrözések többségéről már elérhetőek ISO formátumú lemezképek az összes Tier 1 architektúrára.
